No shirt, no shoes...

Ah, a new month and the start of a new semester. Digital Story telling and Design & Art Theory are what's on the bill this month, plus all of the random happening of the week and the plane trip back to virginia. It's nice to have a week go so smoothly

So let me break down my class schedule for the next month Digital Storytelling lecture begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. After that I have my Digital Story Telling lab from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Yeah, 1 a.m. the next day I go to Design & Art Theory Form 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Yeah, that's right, 8 hour days every day of the week. I don't even get weekends off: keeps me busy though.

In digital story telling we, uh, well...learn to tell stories. Maybe I should just...

"The Digital Storytelling Course leads the student through the methods and techniques of creating personal digital content using various applications, including social networking tools. In this course, students are asked to explore a powerful suite of tools to create many pieces of personal expression, including podcasts, movies, and informative blogs. The design concepts reinforced in this course show that they could be used across all types of media."

It's an mildly interesting class, my current assignment is to make up a superhero and create a back story (special powers, how he got them, why he's a super hero, etc.).I think my favorite class thus far is me Design & Art Theory class though, there I'll be gaining an understanding for the artistic theories behind digital media (which I already did in high school) our first assignment is to draw three pieces in 1, 2 and 3 point perspective; something I have no problem with since I learned about all of that in high school.

I finally got on the airplane to virginia around 7:30 a.m, I've only been away for a month but it's still nice to able to see family and friends again. The trip was kinda funny, really. I had had to take my shoes off at the security checkpoint...and my belt, watch and jewelry. I should have just stripped, at least then people would get a show. :) I really am happy to be in virginia again, I got to spend some time with my lovely lady, KATIE ELIZABETH ADKINS. She'd been waiting two weeks to see me, and I'm quite excited to see her again as well. I'm only up here for a week and I'm trying to fill my time up which is why my update is two days late. Until sunday, my friends, good luck and god speed..or something like that.

New Roommate And Fiddlers Green

Bah! I don't even want to write a blog this week, but there's lots of things that happened, so I will.

There's a bum living on my couch!! Not really though, It's just Doug. all week he had been fighting with his renter to get out of the house he was living in. things were not going smoothly over there him so he decided he was moving out. Long story short, it got to the point where he actually had to call the police because she wouldn't give him his things after she had already broken lease for several reasons. Now he's living with me. He'll be paying for half the rent and half the internet that we'll be getting (the wifi that we have now just isn't cutting it!).

Saturday I got the chance to hang out with the lovely Miss Meghin Moore and her family. It took them about two hours to find my house, and they even passed it once! When they eventually found me we went to an Irish pub called Fiddlers Green. I had irish stew and finished with blackberry cobbler with ice cream. I was full and happy to have a full belly for the first time all month. :)

Last Tuesday I got the score for my midterm back and got a 92. I could have done better but at least I passed, so I'm not too worried about it. We started getting into modern art and learned about two of my favorite artists: Salvedor Dali and Andy Warhol. We also learned about DADAism, Which is my least favorite artistic movement: screwing a bicycle wheel to a stool is not art. Of course the DADAists argument is that it is not art but anti-art, well if that's the case why do it at all? If you don't want to be an artist why not be a cook instead. Though, if a DADAist was a cook he would probably cook beer can soup and fried pencil shavings.

My week outside of class was far less interesting then the previous weeks, Doug and I went to Taco Bell a lot and met a lot of folks: like Eric the bum. He spends his day at taco bell reading the phone book, some day he wants to study music theory, I think he might be a little crazy. there was the old rancher who wasn't actually a rancher, he was a doctor, a chiropractor to be specific and like most old people, he liked to talk a lot.

Aside from the regular strangers that Doug and I talk to we've both gotten to know some of the employees. We met Julie last week, I spoke briefly about her in my last post: we met Ada, who refuses to give me a free empanada: and we met max, who's a friendly dude that likes to talk to the customers.

Other than going to school and Taco Bell I didn't really do much. I did bike to the mall with doug, which is about a 7 mile bike ride but we killed that shit with no problem, cause' we pros.

Crazy Adventures of Doug and Garrett

Well, It's monday, which means it's my unofficial blog writing day, which also puts Tuesday and the start of my week, although most have the days have meshed together and I can't really remember what happened, so i think I'll just hit on the finer points.

After school on one of the days, tuesday I think, Doug and I whet over to taco bell for some grub and meet some fine dames, there names were Maria, Ada, Julie and Lauryn. Sexy. We find out that these ladies are students a Aveda Institute, which is a solon school hybrid thing, not sure really. Anyway they gave us free hair guts, but I only got a trim, and I styling. I look like Fabio. Sexy.

We're back at Taco Bell again, later in the week and we meet this ex-hippy pot head photographer named Skip, he has two daughters, he's poor and hates digital cameras, but that's only because he's stuck in the stone age, has been.

Now were at at Taco bell again (I see a theme here)because my boy doug is really hungry, unfortunately taco bell is closed, so we walk to the drive thorough, put my head up to the speakers as he tries to order. this doesn't work, of course that doesn't work so we just would to the window and try to order, alas we are again rejected so we run back to the speaker where we stop the car that is ordering and ask them to order for us, this process takes at least ten minutes and the cars behind us were building up. The passengers of one truck even started yelling at us...bitches.

It should also be noted that we ended the day egging cars from atop the china restaurant, on one of those days we we had decided to walk to the top of a pedestrian bridge crossing over a major road and dropped the eggs from there, pegging at least eight cars, awesome.

First week of school!

So, it's officially been one week since I started going to school again, I'm meeting new people and everyone around the campus is really friendly. My classes are pretty laid back right now but that's supposed to change in the coming months. did I mention the florida weather?

My first class was on Tuesday of last week and have an online class that usually has me doing something to do every day but what I'm really excited about is the months to come, it's supposed to get super intense and that's something I think I need; something to really focus on instead of staying home all day doing little to nothing of any value. I really hope that this all pays of, and I think it will, after all this is something I've known I wanted to do since I was sixteen.

Aside from the school the people are really nice, it's very easy to walk up to just about anyone and have a conversation or just say "howdy how ya doin" they usually smile and answer back. I've already started making friends, even a fellow Alaskan who's in my class. There's a lot of different people in my class and I've gotten aquatinted with of them; I even got to hang out with one of them today. I can already tell I'm going to have I great time in florida and hope keep making friends an learning new things after all that's why I'm down here.
